Job Position - Product Engineer for Custom Products
Verdex Technologies, Inc. has an opening for a process and product development engineer to scale-up its nanofiber process and to assist customers with product development innovations. The location is at Verdex’s laboratory in Richmond, Virginia.

Essential Functions
Analyzes, researches, designs, and tests component parts, processes, or systems to develop new and/or improve core products. Designs products or systems of diverse/difficult scope and complexity using engineering principles based on assigned engineering domain (e.g. mechanical; electrical; chemical, etc.). Develops and recommends solutions to a variety of complex engineering requirements to ensure that design objectives are met, including required program scope, cost and schedule constraints. Projects at this level are assigned to develop in-depth knowledge and skills and to build knowledge of the organization, processes, and customers.
This position has no direct reports but may lead and mentor Co-Ops, Interns, and Entry Level Engineers.
The position coordinates with Tool Engineers, Quality, Sales & Marketing, Suppliers and Customers. Materials Engineers and Lab Personnel, Business Unit Managers, Engineering Managers, Value Stream Leaders.
Major Duties
- Applies scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure the outcome and consequence of design alternatives. Interprets and validates test results for accuracy and precision. Oversees and monitors product acceptance procedures and parameters to achieve customer and product reliability and safety standards (e.g. failure analysis). Utilizes and interprets predictive models to simulate and verify design concepts.
- Completes technical project elements (e.g. preparation of product or system layout; defining system architecture; creating software development plans; etc.) as assigned. Develops critical data and analysis necessary to present technical product and/or system proposals to customers.
- Contributes to the completion milestones associated with specific projects (e.g. create functional diagrams and system layouts; review detailed drawings and schematics; define data structure, interfaces and programming logic; analyze material requirements; research customer data item requirements). Maintain efforts within defined cost and schedule constraints, including root cause/corrective actions of associated variances.
- Reviews product specifications and/or modifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures. Troubleshoots design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the project team.
- Provides technical information for review with product engineering teams applying consistent engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods (e.g. structured design process; customer design reviews). Writes supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports.
- Conducts complex analyses and devises tests to validate performance in the development of new products, methods, materials or processes. Completes required documentation, generates detailed reports, creates customer proposals and presentations and/or change proposals. Determines required actions, performs or directs completion of tasks, and publishes findings and/or results.
- Compiles and analyzes operation, test, and research data, develop acceptance, engineering evaluation, development and qualification/certification test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Will communicate frequently with customers to identify new business opportunities, present Verdex product capabilities, and clarify customers’ technical requirements. May write technical proposals for customers by reviewing and interpreting specifications and requirements.
- Mentors or serves as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others. Establishes goals and objectives and tracks performance required to complete projects.
- Updates professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and/or participating in professional associations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering or a science technical discipline. Master’s degree (MS preferred) with 3+ years of technical experience in the design of sealing solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 4-7 years of related experience
- A working knowledge of CAD is required, preferably Inventor, including solid modeling, and simulation techniques (Finite Element Analysis/FEA, Computational Fluid Dynamics/CFD).
- Ability to read, understand, and create engineering drawings including geometric tolerance and dimensioning (GD&T). Understands assembly relationship of components and tolerance stacking.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Working knowledge of DFMEA is required.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
- Effective inter-personal skills, ability to work in a team environment, and Project Management experience with the ability to manage his/her own priorities and workload.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. Ability to respond to significant inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or marketing/sales teams.

Job Position - Mechanical Technician
Verdex Technologies, Inc. has an opening for a mechanical technician to scale-up its nanofiber process and to assist customers with product development innovations. The location is at Verdex’s laboratory in Richmond, Virginia.
Verdex’s engineering expertise and broad range of core technologies uniquely positions the company to solve some of the world’s greatest engineering challenges. Major Duties
- Sets-up resets and/or operates a variety of production metal finishing machines involving intricate and complex tooling and operations.
- Must be fully familiar with all aspects of the operation and layout of assigned machines.
- Diagnoses machine trouble and makes mechanical adjustments and machine repairs including changing motors, gear boxes and index tables..
- Follows layouts, blueprints or other instructions to insure parts are produced in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Knows and uses Statistical process Control as appropriate.
- Assists in the training of machine operators.
- Observes all plant and departmental safety practices and procedures.
- Follows housekeeping procedures in maintaining a neat and orderly work area.
- Prepares required paperwork.
- Performs precision measuring of parts.
- Responsible for quality and quantity of work.
- Must be able to technically troubleshoot machines and maintain uptime to optimum levels.
- Must be capable of making program changes and normal programming requirements on key pieces of equipment with PLC’s.
- Must be capable of developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs on key equipment.
- Must have the ability to work with little or no supervision and direct support personnel (other setters) in the department.
- Must be capable of wiring small motors in, replacing switches, install and adjusting sensors and using multi-meter for electrical troubleshooting.
- Must be able to order parts to replace or repair existing equipment.
- Records counts, scrap, time, etc.
- Devises methods of machining new and difficult jobs.
