VERDEX TO DEMONSTRATE BREAKTHROUGH NANOFIBER TECHNOLOGY AT IDEA 2019
Verdex, one of the leading global partners for technical and innovative performance-based nanofiber materials and nonwovens solutions, is to showcase its nanofiber technologies and capabilities at IDEA 2019.
After years of development, Verdex Technologies Inc., an innovator in nanofiber production, is introducing a very different breakthrough technology, The Verdex Process® that greatly expands opportunities for nanofibers. This patented technology provides nonwovens manufacturers the capability to offer a wide variety of functional enhancements to their products with nanofibers.
Verdex Carpet Recycling
As part of a joint effort with Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), Verdex has developed innovative technology that can take recycled PCC and turn into high value, high volume filtration and acoustical products.
Verdex’s patented spinning nozzle technology converts PCC material directly into nano/micro fibers which are blended with larger fibers to form the air, water and acoustical filtration products.
The Verdex Process® can produce nanofibers from PP, PLA, PET, Nylon 6,6 and recycled carpet, and can add functional particles to nanofibers such as (activated Carbon, Kaolin, Chitosan, Calcium Peroxide, Citric Acid, Copper Oxide, Zeolites, Manganese Oxide and others) so they are combined into the media.
Verdex technology is capable of spinning recycled “cleaned” PET carpet fiber containing 15-20% PP and 4-6% ash, which can then be used in high value high volume filtration and acoustical products.
Another unique capability is the ability to control nanofiber distribution size from 500 nm to 4 denier per filament in the same web. Nanofibers and larger fibers are comingled and not layered to give the lowest possible pressure drop. This unique and broad-spectrum technology is protected by multiple patents issued to Verdex Technologies.
Verdex Advanced Filtration
The filtration market is turning out to be one of the most promising markets for Verdex. The company’s new filtration media technology offers higher filtration efficiency with less pressure drop and higher dust holding capacity than in conventional filtration products.
The greater active surface area of the nanofibers and minute deviations in pore size, ensure very high filtration material performance. Potential applications for these nanofiber based filtration products include liquid and air filtration, to filter out bacteria or pollen, for example. The fibres in the nanofiber products have a thickness of only 100 nanometres, whereas ordinary nonwoven fibres are about 100 times thicker.
Verdex sees huge potential in the filtration market, and Verdex’s ambition is to become the leading global player capable of manufacturing filter media with a wide range of different properties and functionalities.
Damien Deehan, Co-CEO at Verdex, said: “IDEA is without doubt one of the leading events in the nonwovens and engineered fabrics sector, and presents an excellent platform for Verdex to inform and educate potential partners and customers on our latest market-leading and pioneering technologies.
“We look forward to demonstrating how The Verdex Process® can offer a truly tailored solution for enhanced performance and new product development using nanofibers.”
IDEA is an industry leading event drawing the world’s premier professionals in nonwovens and engineered fabrics. The 2019 event takes place between March 25-28 at Miami Beach Convention Center and is expected to attract over 7,000 attendees and companies from more than 70 countries.
Verdex, along with Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) and Circular Polymers will be located at booth 145 and will be pleased to meet industry leaders who are interested in using and/or integrating this technology into their process.
